My words for the studio spaces were Apathetic (Above) and then Blocks (Below). Originally I hadn't been too focused on how the two studios would be rendered - placing more emphasis on the form and flow of the two buildings. But as I developed the ideas further I became perplexed as how to effectively render both spaces so as to tie into the themes of each.
My original feeling was to have a huge contrast between the two spaces by employing the use of Black and White. I felt this tied into the scheme of both studios - White; a lack of colour, could be used to show how the space was devoid of feeling as well as completely disconnected from the colours of its surroundings. I also felt this stuck to what materials I would have imagined the studio to be made out of as I felt it would be made from concrete. I decided to make the below ground studio Black so as to show the change in space from the above ground to below ground. I also felt that the word Blocks implied structure and control which are both concepts generally linked to darker, solid colours. I also felt the space could have then be contrasted from various slabs of black stones (to continue the studios form on all design levels). However I was concerned this may make the space to dark which i was unsure how to offset.
However through last weeks studio my tutor brought up the issue of including colour into the scheme. Brad's suggestions were to include colour into the supports of the studio in the Above ground space. I was very hesitant to add the colour and still unsure what colours or how to do it.
After further thought I decided adding the colour to the supports would fit with my theme as I could adapt the rendering to show how at ground level the supports started as a bright, vibrant colour and how they were diluted to white where they came to meet the studio space. I also looked into adapting my textures to include colours through photoshop so as to play with the space more. I also thought I could use some of the colour in the below space to highlight some of it's box elements. I felt using a small, stable palette of colours would bring a better flow between the two spaces. I also thought the pinnacle of the colour could be the entrance/enclosure around were the two spaces meet by including all the coloured textures there.
I still didn't want to go overboard with colours so I've decided to limit my colour palette to red, blue and yellow along with black and white when it comes to the studios. I think using these three colours with give me enough variation through out my studios.
